📚 The Legacy of Yamawaki Hamono × Gōuma-no-jō Yoshihiro
🔹 Sakai has a forging history of over 1,500 years, dating back to the Kofun era. Today, 90% of Japan’s professional chefs use knives forged in Sakai.
🔹 “Gōuma-no-jō Yoshihiro” is ranked among the three legendary smiths in Japanese history, alongside Masamune and Yoshimitsu. According to the Kyōhō Meibutsuchō, feudal lords in the Sengoku era considered ownership of a Yoshihiro blade a symbol of status and power.
🔹 In the late Edo period, a swordsmith named Masakuni, inspired by Yoshihiro’s blade style, received a vision in a dream. He later moved to Senshū Sumiyoshi, claiming the title of Yoshihiro’s spiritual successor.
🔹 The Yamawaki family officially registered “Gōuma-no-jō Yoshihiro” as their brand in 1950 (Shōwa 25). They specialize in Honyaki and Hon-Kasumi knives, upholding traditional forging and polishing techniques.
